2018 World Economic Forum (WEF) ended in Davos, Switzerland on Friday, January 26. The forum was attended by Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan, who met with major business leaders to highlight the county’s agenda for reforms to built better business environment and attract investments.
Karapetyan noted that while local market is small, Armenia may serve as a platform to reach bigger markets since it works on building Meghri Free Economic Zone with Iran and is a member of Eurasian Economic Union. “We are trying just now to create a shared future in our region, trying to be a platform, a gateway through markets, through cultures where the different parts of the world can be really compatible,” – Karapetyan said in the interview with Euronews. “We will continue to implement our reform agenda for making Armenia more attractive with a comfortable business environment in terms of local market as a platform for doing business in our region by using our trade regimes.”
On January 22, WEF also revealed its Inclusive Development Index (IDI) which ranks economies of 103. Armenia is ranked the 45th among 79 emerging economies. Since last year, Armenia has improved its position by 5 places, and now has overall IDI score of 3.66 out of 7. Neighboring Azerbaijan is the 3rd, while Georgia is the 32nd and Iran is the 27th.
