The Criterion Collection is to release The Color of Pomegranates

New York-based home video distribution company The Criterion Collection is to release Sergei Parajanov's The Color of Pomegranates.
The new edition will contain audio commentary by British film critic Tony Rayns and a video essay featuring the author of The Cinema of Sergei Parajanov book James Steffen. The film will be released with new English subtitles and two documentaries: Sergei Parajanov: The Rebel (2003) and The Life of Sayat-Nova (1977).
In 2014, The Color of Pomegranates was restored by Martin Scorsese’s Film Foundation World Cinema Project and Cineteca di Bologna. The film will be released in DVD and Blu-ray this April; preorder is already available at The Criterion website.
The Criterion Collection was established in 1984 and is focused on publishing “important classic and contemporary films” in high technical quality and with supporting material. Its pioneering approach to releasing notable films in multi-disc sets and with commentaries became has become a standard in the industry.
