On 23 October, Armenia will take part in negotiations in the 3+3 format in Tehran at the level of foreign ministers. Press Secretary of the Armenian Foreign Ministry Ani Badalyan announced this on 22 October.
As reported by the Iranian agency IRNA, the meeting will take place in Tehran on October 23 with the participation of the foreign ministers of Russia, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Armenia and Iran. It is noted that the problems of the South Caucasus region and the possibilities of expanding regional cooperation (political, economic, security issues, transit, energy, etc.) will be discussed.
The participation of the Russian side was confirmed by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, RIA Novosti reports.
As Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Vahan Kostyanan said on October 20, answering questions from journalists, Tehran sent official proposals to the foreign ministries of Russia, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia.
“The constant change of formats raises serious doubts in our minds about whether official Baku is interested in completing the peace process or whether they want to move from format to format, avoiding concluding agreements,” the deputy minister said.
It should be noted that the 3+3 format is considered as an alternative for negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
At the end of October, a meeting of the leaders of the two countries is planned in Brussels through the mediation of the head of the European Council Charles Michel, in which the Armenian side has confirmed its participation several times. At the same time, during his visit to Georgia on October 8, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev proposed holding negotiations with Tbilisi through the mediation of Georgia.
