Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan received the French Ambassador France to Armenia Olivier Olivier Decottignies, the press service of the Armenian Ministry of Defense reported On October 4.
During the meeting the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border as well as other security issues were discussed.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly’s Committee on Defense, MP Armen Khachatryan commented on the topic of military-technical cooperation with France. There is no talk of a formal military alliance, he said.
When asked what kind of weapons Armenia expects, Khachatryan said: “we can talk about defensive types of weapons. A vast field of opportunities has opened up for training personnel with basic officer education in military educational institutions in France.”
He also added that during the negotiations with France the issue of acquiring new air defense systems will be touched on.
