Armenian MPs called on Russia to ensure the implementation of trilateral statement

On December 14, the National Assembly of Armenia called on Russia to ensure the implementation of the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020, which guarantees uninterrupted functioning of the Lachin Corridor between Armenia and Artsakh.

According to Armenpress, the statement was presented in the parliament by the head of the ruling Civil Contract party Hayk Konjoryan.

The document adopted by the National Assembly calls on the international community to "strongly and directly condemn the actions of Azerbaijan and take measures to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in Nagorno-Karabakh”. It is noted that in the current situation there is an urgent need to "launch international mechanisms to ensure the rights and security of the Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh”.

The statement also refers to the importance of sending a fact-finding mission by the co-chairs and members of the UN Security Council and the OSCE Minsk Group.

The parliamentarians reminded that, once again, the Azerbaijani side violated the terms of the tripartite statement of the Prime Minister of Armenia, the presidents of Russia and of Azerbaijan. Over 120,000 people are under blockade in Nagorno-Karabakh.

“Thousands of people, including children, remained on the roads in winter weather, many families were involuntarily divided, finding themselves on opposite sides of the blockade. Citizens with serious health problems are deprived of medicines and medical services.  Food supplies and other essential commodities were interrupted. Also, 22,000 children are deprived of the right to education,” the statement said.

On December 12, under the pretext of protests against environmental problems, Azerbaijan organized a blockade of the Lachin Corridor, the only road connecting Artsakh with the outside world. The next day, Baku blocked the gas coming from Armenia to Karabakh, which passed through the territory controlled by Azerbaijan.
