Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejcinovic-Buric on 17 October 17 in Strasbourg, the Prime Minister's press service reported.
The interlcutors discussed the humanitarian situation that had developed following the forced resettlement of more than 100 thousand Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh as a result of Azerbaijan's policy of ethnic cleansing.
Further steps by the international community aimed at helping to solve existing problems were also touched upon.
As reported on the Council of Europe website, special attention during the meeting was paid to developments in the region and the contribution of the Council of Europe, in particular in light of the recent visit to Armenia of the Special Representative of the Secretary General for Migration and Refugees.
Pejcinovic-Buric recalled that everyone living in the countries of the Council of Europe has the right to fully enjoy all human rights and freedoms enshrined in the European Convention on Human Rights.
In addition, she emphasized the relevance of confidence-building measures for dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan with the participation of NGOs, civil society, journalists and youth.
