Armenian Security Council Secretary discusses regional security with Iranian counterpart

Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan has met with Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran Ali Akbar Ahmadian. The press service of the Security Council of Armenia reported this on October 1.

“Armen Grigoryan presented the details of the Azerbaijani attack on Nagorno-Karabakh last week, which resulted in a massive forced displacement of the population of the region,” the Security Council press service readout says.

Ali Akbar Ahmadian, for his part, noted that any geopolitical change in the region will lead to instability and escalation of the crisis. He also expressed Tehran's readiness to provide the necessary conditions and organize a “meeting between the countries of the region.”

The interlocutors also touched upon the development of trade and economic cooperation between Armenia and Iran.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said that Tehran stands for the development of communication routes in the region, but at the same time, his country is against “changes in international borders and geopolitics” in the region.

To recall, the Iranian media announced plans to send 50 tons of humanitarian aid to the internally displaced persons of Nagorno-Karabakh by the Iranian Red Crescent Society.
