Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan speaking at the cabinet meeting on 22 September has said that the aim of Armenia is not to depopulate Artsakh.
“This is an agreed position with our colleagues in Nagorno-Karabakh that our plan A is not to depopulate Nagorno-Karabakh of Armenians. With our actions we must do everything for our compatriots, the residents of Nagorno-Karabakh, to have the opportunity to live safely, in dignity, without fear, in their homes,” Pashinyan said. He also repeated his earlier statement that accommodation for over 40,000 families from Artsakh is ready or being prepared.
Speaking about the possibility of forced relocation, the Armenian Prime Minister said: “We assess that this could happen in case of recording the impossibility of our compatriots staying in Nagorno-Karabakh, and the continuation of this situation. Yes, we assess that this impossibility exists at this moment. That issue will be on our agenda if the situation doesn’t improve.”
He also expressed hope of improving the humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, noting that agreements on larger shipments of humanitarian aid had been reached. “It is not to be ruled out that today larger batches of humanitarian aid would enter Nagorno-Karabakh,”
