Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Foreign Minster Sergey Ghazaryan has met in Armenia’s Kornidzor, Syunik with the Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo and members of her delegation representing local self-government bodies of France, the Foreign Ministry of Artsakh said in a press release on 31 August.
The delegation had arrived on 30 August in Armenia to accompany the humanitarian cargo sent from France to Artsakh and to assess the situation on the ground.
During the meeting, Sergey Ghazaryan expressed his deep gratitude to the people of France, represented by Anne Hidalgo, for taking active steps to support the people of Artsakh, who have been under siege for almost 9 months, and for consistently raising at various levels the issue of the humanitarian crisis in Artsakh caused by Azerbaijan's illegal actions. "It is noteworthy that French politicians with different, sometimes opposite political stances, have taken a united position on the issue of supporting the people of Artsakh," Ghazaryan said.
The Foreign Minister also highlighted the importance of a clear political and legal assessment of the genocidal actions of Azerbaijan by the international community and the use of appropriate measures, including individual sanctions, which would enable to prevent the impending tragic developments in Artsakh.
The Day before the delegation members, including the Mayors of Paris, and Strasbourg, heads of the Hauts-de-France region as well as a number of other representatives from the cities of Marseille, Lyon, and the regions of Ile-de-France, Pays de la Loire, Occitania, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes signed a joint statement. The statement describes the critical ere humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, recalling that the actions taken by Azerbaijan were characterized by the former First Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court Luis Ocampo as “in part matching with the definition of the genocide: famine, privation of subsistence means and prevention of urgent humanitarian interventions”
The called on the French President Emmanuel Macron to initiate a resolution of the UN Security Council urging an “immediate and unconditional” opening of the Lachin Corridor.
To remind, on 30 August a convoy of trucks loaded with humanitarian aid for Artsakh from different French local governments and municipalities arrived at the entrance to the Lachin Corridor without being able to continue their way due to the blockade imposed by Azerbaijan.
