US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in a statement made public on 10 September expressed his country’s concern over the humanitarian situation in Artsakh. “The United States is deeply concerned about the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh,” he said. He also called on to simultaneously open the Lachin corridor and the road from Aghdam for the supply of humanitarian aid.
“We also urge leaders against taking any actions that raise tensions or distract from this goal. The use of force to resolve disputes is unacceptable,” added Blinken.
Secretary Blinken also said the US is “strongly supporting” to efforts by Armenia and Azerbaijan to resolve issues through direct dialogue with the aim of a dignified and enduring peace. “We reiterate that any peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan must protect the rights and security of the residents of Nagorno-Karabakh. We also encourage dialogue between Baku and residents of Nagorno-Karabakh,” the statement says.
To remind, Yuri Kim, the acting U.S. assistant secretary of state for Europe and Eurasia, spoke with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov by phone on 10 September for the second time in two days.
Meanwhile Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian on the same day offered to hold “urgent” talks with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during phone calls with Blinken and the leaders of France, Germany and Iran.
