Bodies with mutilation signs delivered from Nagorno-Karabakh - Armenian Ombudsperson

Many bodies of Armenians killed during Azerbaijan’s aggression on 19 September were delivered to Armenia from Nagorno-Karabakh, on which traces of torture and mutilation were found. Armenian Ombudswoman Anahit Manasyan told reporters about this on 19 October.

She noted that bodies of women and children were among the mentioned group. This information was included in the preliminary report, which was presented at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, Manasyan said.

“I also conveyed this information orally to all international partners during meetings with ambassadors and representatives of international organizations. Also, the published report was sent to all international partners and was used as the main evidence in The Hague Court,” noted the human rights defender in Armenia.

To note, on 19 October, Anahit Manasyan met with a delegation from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), led by lawyer and rule of law expert Melissa Hooper.

Manasyan spoke about the policy of ethnic cleansing against the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh, cases of torture and mutilation inflicted on Armenian civilians by the Azerbaijani military, as well as other violations of international law.

The Ombudsperson pointed to the humanitarian crisis created as a result of Azerbaijani aggression. The importance of the Ombudsperson's reports was highlighted thanks to which it is possible to document the results of monitoring.
