Armenian Investigative Committee reported on 3 September that the Airport in Kapan was again targeted by small arms from the adjacent territory of Azerbaijan. The incident, according to the report had occurred at 3:00 in the morning of 1 September.
The Committee’s spokesperson Gor Abrahamayan told Azatutyun Radio a criminal case was launched on attempted homicide through means injurious to public safety and property damage motivated by national, ethnic hatred and enmity.
“There are traces left on the walls and a bullet fired from small arms was found, there is an expert examination is launched,” Abrahamyan said adding that there is no evidence of illegal crossing of the Armenian border.
The regular flights between Yerevan and Kapan were launched on 17 August and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was among the first passengers. Hours after the first flight shots were fired from the territory of Azerbaijan at the airport building in Kapan. Shots were fired towards the building also on 19 August minutes before the landing of the plane with the Prime Minster’s Adviser Arayik Harutyunyan and Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan on board.
