Miller: international mission should monitor implementation of Baku’s promises on Karabakh

U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said at a press briefing on 25 September that an international body has to be set up to monitor the protection of Artsakh Armenians as promised by the Azerbaijani leaders.

“We do believe there should be an international mission to provide transparency, reassurance, and confidence to the residents of Nagorno-Karabakh and the international community, that [...] their rights and security will be protected consistent with the public statements that Azerbaijan has made,” the US State Department official said. He added that the US Administration is working with its allies and partners to set up such a body.

Commenting on the recently souring Armenia-Russia ties along with Yerevan’s dissatisfaction with Russia’s failure to comply with its obligations as an ally, Miller said, “I do think that Russia has shown that it is not a security partner that can be relied on.”
