Mirzoyan holds talks on situation in Artsakh with his Iranian counterpart

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan has discussed the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh following the Azerbaijani aggression with Iranian Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. On 19 September he wrote on his official X (formerly Twitter) account:  “In the meeting with Abhollahian I stressed that the Azerbaijani military aggression against Nagorno-Karabakh seriously threatens stability in the South Caucasus. All parties interested in stability should send clear message on unacceptability of aggression and bring Baku to constructive track.”

Commenting on Tehran’s position regarding the recent escalation in Artsakh Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan said that “close contact” is being maintained with Iranian officials. I can state that we have mutual understanding with Iran and we understand Iran’s policies and they understand our policies,” Grigoryan said in an interview to the Public TV.

On 20 September Iran’s Defense Minister Mohammad Reza Ashtiani during his meeting with Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said that the “defense of territorial integrity of regional and states and international borders are red line” for Tehran. He also expressed Iran’s commitment to the 3+3 format (Involving Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia as well as Russia, Turkey and Iran) of interaction in the South Caucasus region, the Iranian Tasnim news agency reported.
