Chairman of the State Duma Chairman of the Commission on Investigation into Foreign Interference in Russia's Internal Affairs Vasily Piskarev, told reporters on October 12 that a list of foreign NGOs considered as “undesirable” in Russia and a register of foreign agents will be handed over to partners in the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, Interfax reports.
According to the Russian MP, the list contains names of 110 foreign NGOs.
“In our opinion, the priority task of parliamentarians of the Commonwealth countries is to jointly counter attempts at foreign interference,” the MP explained.
According to the agency, the documents will be handed over during the conference “Protection of the Electoral Sovereignty of the Member States of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly”, opening on October 12 in St. Petersburg. The event will take place in preparation for monitoring campaigns to observe the single voting day in Belarus and the presidential elections in Russia in 2024.
On the same day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, after a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the CIS, expressed concern that there are many non-governmental organizations operating in Armenia, which, in his words, “artificially inflame anti-Russian sentiments in the country.”
“These organizations are not created for the purpose of promoting friendly relations between Armenia and the Russian Federation. Just the opposite. They are aimed at creating the ground for anti-Russian sentiments and preparing for the promotion of interests in this region through Armenia, primarily of the United States and the European Union, and NATO countries. We see these attempts, they achieve some results,” Lavrov emphasized.
He expressed hope that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will stick to his statements about the country's unchanged foreign policy course, despite attempts to pull it in a different direction. “Russia is convinced that the overwhelming majority of the Armenian people are interested in developing traditionally, historically fraternal ties with the Russian Federation,” the Russian Foreign Minister said.
