Nagorno Karabakh President Arayik Harutyunyan has announced his decision to tend his resignation. He wrote about this on his official Facebook page on 31 August.
“Tomorrow I will tend my resignation to the people of Artsakh and National Assembly my resignation from the office of the president of the Artsakh Republic”, he wrote.
In an explanation of his move Harutynyan wrote: “Today's unstable global geopolitical situation, regional events and forecasted developments, phenomena happening in and around Artsakh, Artsakh's internal political and social atmosphere directly suggest that there is a need to change approaches and steps, to show flexibility. In order to achieve the above, it is necessary to change the main actors in Artsakh, starting with me.”
He also announced that his family and he will continue living in Nagorno-Karabakh.
In his Facebook post he also announced that he had dismissed the Gurgen Nersisyan as the State Secretary and appointed Samvel Shahramanyan as the new State Secretary. Shahramanyan has been acting as the Secretary of the Security Council. “Shahramanyan will be given a large scope of powers”, Harutyunyan wrote.
