New wave of protests started in Armenia

New wave of protests started in Armenia as the meeting between the opposition leader Nikol Pashinyan and acting Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan was canceled.

The protesters gather at the main Republic Square in Yerevan, as well as in regions of Armenia. They demand that the ruling Republican Party gives up the power and calls for  snap parliamentary elections.

The protests started in Armenia on April 13, after the ruling Republican Party nominated Serzh Sargsyan as its candidate for the position of Prime Minister. They continued after the special session of the Parliament where Sargsyan was elected.

On April 23, first deputy PM Karen Karapetyan met with Nikol Pashinyan; soon after that Serzh Sargsyan resigned.
