Next 3+3 meeting to be held in Turkey in early 2024 - Lavrov

The next meeting of the “3+3” format will be held in Turkey in the first half of 2024,  Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told reporters on 23 October.

Answering questions from journalists, he said that among the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict was not on the agenda at the meeting in Tehran, which, according to him, has been “largely resolved”.

“Both sides agreed that Karabakh belongs to Azerbaijan, and this was the main unresolved problem. Now, of course, there remain practical steps to fully normalize relations, primarily to prepare a peace treaty, delimitate borders and establish transport economic ties without any obstacles, as was agreed upon by all at the meetings of the presidents of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia,” - Lavrov is quoted by Azatutyun radio.

According to him, “Russia plays a coordinating role in the processes between Armenia and Azerbaijan” and “is ready to actually help in launching the border delimitation process.”

“The Armenians and Azerbaijanis agreed to create a delimitation commission, in which, with their consent, the Russian side will participate as a consultant. Unfortunately, this commission did not meet for quite a long period. Over the past year, there have been attempts (they continue) to penetrate into the process of delimitation [of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan] from, first of all, the European Union and, to a certain extent, the United States. We are not against any contacts that both Armenians and Azerbaijanis find useful. But all experts are well aware that everything necessary to discuss and agree on the delimitation, including, first of all, the maps that remained from Soviet times, is in the hands of the Russian Federation.”

“The partners understand this. We're not trying to make a big deal out of it. Let them try their luck in Brussels, if they so desire, but we are always ready to really help begin real delimitation,” the head of the Russian diplomatic department assured.
Let us note that the next meeting of the heads of Armenia and Azerbaijan is scheduled for the end of October in Brussels through the mediation of the head of the European Council, Charles Michel.
