Nikol Pashinyan and his family test positive for coronavirus as Armenia struggles to contain the outbreak of the virus in the country

This morning, via Facebook Live, the Prime Minister of Armenia has announced that he and his family were diagnosed with coronavirus. None of the family members, including Mr. Pashinyan himself, have any symptoms at this stage. He decided to take the test as he was planning to visit the frontline in the near future. Mr. Pashinyan indicated that he and his family have followed all the safety measures and his temperature was monitored on a daily basis during the previous months. Nikol Pashinyan expressed an opinion that he was infected during one of the governmental sessions when one of the waiters served him water without wearing gloves. That particular waiter was earlier diagnosed with coronavirus. The Prime Minister approached the citizens of Armenia asking them to follow all the safety regulations and noted that he will continue working from his residence. 

According to the PM’s speaker, other members of the government won’t be tested, If further medical instructions are not received. Ms. Gevorgyan indicated that all government members who were in contact with Mr. Pashinyan strictly followed the medical instructions and regulations. 

 

As of May 31, there are 210 new cases of COVID-19 in Armenia, which is a comparatively low number, having in mind the records set during the past weeks. The overall number of coronavirus infections in the country reached 9,402. Another 13 deaths were reported, eight from coronavirus and five from other causes. In total, there are 139 deaths from coronavirus, 55 due to other reasons.

On the positive side, there are 16 new recoveries, bringing the total number of recovered patients in the country to 3402. The number of patients currently receiving medical care is 5896.

 

In total, 58,668 people were tested.
