No hope for CSTO backing – Armenian Security Council Secretary

Armenia no longer has hope for the CSTO assistance, after the organization failed to use its military and military-political tools, said Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan in an interview with Radio Azatutyun on September 16.

“When we applied to the CSTO, we counted on the provision of military and military-political assistance to protect the sovereignty of Armenia and the withdrawal of Azerbaijani troops from our territory. This was our demand from the CSTO, but it has not yet been fulfilled,” Grigoryan said.
During the events in Kazakhstan in January of this year (when the combined forces of the CSTO were brought into Kazakhstan) there was hope that the mechanisms of the organization would finally work, he said, adding however that "such hopes no longer exist."

The Secretary of the Security Council stressed that the expectations of the Armenian leadership would come true only in the case of substantive steps on the part of the CSTO. However, according to him, the CSTO has not yet responded properly and Azerbaijani troops are on the Armenian territory.

It should be noted that in accordance with the decision of the extraordinary meeting of the CSTO Collective Security Council, convened on the initiative of the Republic of Armenia, on September 15 this year, a group of the CSTO monitoring mission has arrived in Armenia.
