The first general election since the Velvet Revolution in April-May 2018, and the country’s first ever snap parliamentary elections took place yesterday in Armenia.
"My Step" alliance led by leader of the Velvet Revolution, ex-journalist Nikol Pashinyan had 70.43% of the votes, the second power is Gagik Tsarukyan's "Prosperous Armenia" with 8.27% and the third party that will have seats in the Parliament is "Bright Armenia," led by Edmon Marukyan (6.37%).
Other parties and alliancies, including former rulling Republican Party and Armenian Revolutionary Federation ("Dashnaktsutyun") didn't reach the point of 5%, needed to be pass into the Parliament. Overall, 11 parties and alliances were competing to have parliament seats.
1,260,840 voters took part in the election, which is 48.63%, 12% less than in the parliamentary elections of 2017.
