The Russian peacekeeping contingent is ready to contribute in every possible way to the establishment of peaceful life in Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov wrote about this in his article “Compliance with the principles of the UN Charter in their entirety and interconnection is the key to international peace and stability.” The article was published on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry on October 10.
“Now that the leaders of Yerevan and Baku have settled the issue of mutual recognition of the sovereignty of the two states, the time has come to establish a peaceful life and strengthen trust. The Russian peacekeeping contingent is ready to contribute to this in every possible way,” writes Lavrov.
At the same time, the minister believes that the EU and the United States are taking a destructive position in the negotiation process between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
“Caring about their geopolitical ambitions, they impose their ‘mediation services’ on Azerbaijan and Armenia, bringing destabilization to the South Caucasus together with Washington,” writes the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
It should be noted that almost all residents of Artsakh were forced to leave their homes after Azerbaijan’s military aggression on September 19.
On October 1, a UN mission visited Nagorno-Karabakh, whose report noted that there were between 50 and 1,000 inhabitants left in the region.
On October 5, at the Valdai forum, Russian President Vladimir Putin also announced that merely 1000-1500 residents remained in Nagorno-Karabakh.
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported on 9 October that the peacekeeping contingent continues “interaction with Baku and Stepanakert, aimed at preventing bloodshed, ensuring security and observing humanitarian law in relation to the civilian population.”
According to the report, together with the Azerbaijani side, the peacekeepers are protecting warehouses with ammunition, weapons, military and special equipment handed over to the armed forces of Nagorno-Karabakh.
