On September 26, Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh during a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raisi, the Kremlin press service reported.
“Vladimir Putin briefed on the activities of the Russian peacekeeping contingent, including providing humanitarian assistance to civilian and protecting the rights and security of the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh. The presidents of Russia and Iran emphasized the importance of resolving all issues exclusively through peaceful, political and diplomatic means,” the press release notes.
The readout also says that the leaders of Iran and the Russian Federation, in the context of discussing the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh expressed interest in intensifying the work of the consultative regional platform “3+3” (Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia plus Russia, Iran and Turkey).
Meanwhile, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is on a visit to Nakhijevan, said that the “Zangezur Corridor” can be implemented under peaceful conditions. The Turkish leader also noted that there are “positive signals” from Iran on the issue of opening communications between Azerbaijan and Nakhijevan and added “if Armenia does not make efforts on this issue, communications will pass through Iran.”
