Russian spokesperson slams French brokering schemes on Artsakh

The Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova has criticized France for “attempts to grab the leadership” in seeking for a peaceful settlement in Karabakh.

In an interview with RT France Channel on September 21, Zakharova stated: “Look at what this has led to. Paris tried to take ownership of this mediation agenda and declare that France had achieved more in mediation than anyone else, particularly Russia. While Russia is engaged in carrying out its functions as a mediator, there were really good, fundamental grounds for moving along a peaceful path to settlement.”

The representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry also lashed out at France for its reluctance to make attempts to “clarify the situation and somehow rehabilitate itself” following the recent escalation in Karabakh. “This can serve as a lesson for everyone who will lean towards a Western mediation,” she added.

To recall, on September 21, an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council was convened in New York on the launch of a military operation by Azerbaijan in Artsakh.
