US president vows support to Armenia in his message to Pashinyan

US President Joe Biden has conveyed a letter to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the Administration of the Armenian Prime Minister reported on 25 September. “I assure you that the United States will continue to stand beside Armenia as you work to strengthen the democracy at home and seek stability in your neighborhood,” reads the letter.

In his letter the US president expressed condolence for those Armenians killed in the recent escalation in Artsakh and promised support in addressing humanitarian needs which emerged as a consequence of the violence.

Joe Biden also expressed his Administration's support to Armenia in the pursuit of a “dignified and durable regional peace that maintains [its] sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, and democracy”.

The US President in his letter also touched on the topic of bilateral relations, promising to continue cooperation on “energy diversification, resilience and security”.

USAID Administrator Samantha Power at a press conference on the sidelines of her visit to Armenia reaffirmed US support to Yerevan, as written in her president’s letter. She noted that Azerbaijan had resorted to force in Nagorno-Karabakh despite US senior officials’ earlier warnings that such actions were unacceptable, and now the United States is looking for an appropriate response.
