Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan has received US Senior Adviser for Caucasus Negotiations and co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group Louis Bono, the press service of the Foreign Ministry reported on 11 October.
Mirzoyan, speaking about the establishment of long-term peace and stability in the South Caucasus and the process of normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, emphasized the need to contain encroachments on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Armenia. He also noted that Azerbaijan wants to adopt a constructive approach in the peace process Baku has to confirm its renunciation of territorial claims against Armenia.
The parties also discussed humanitarian problems and the rights of over 100,000 forcibly displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh.
Mirzoyan emphasized that Nagorno-Karabakh was actually subjected to ethnic cleansing, despite numerous calls from international partners, including the United States. The minister emphasized that the failure to prevent the mass deportation of residents of Nagorno-Karabakh in the 21st century proves the need for clear steps by international actors.
