YEREVAN MUNICIPALITY TO TERMINATE THE CONTRACT WITH SANITEK

The news that the cooperation between Sanitek and the Yerevan Municipality will be suspended, went back and forth for quite a long period. Meanwhile, two parties tried to settle the situation, the city almost drowned in the smell of 3-4 days old garbage on the streets. Today, the Mayor of Yerevan Hayk Marutyan announced that the municipality has unilaterally terminated its contract with Sanitek and the firm will no longer provide its services to the city.

On his Facebook page, Mr. Marutyan named several reasons for this decision, namely that starting from 2017 Sanitek fails to provide quality waste collection services to the city. Especially, during the summer of 2018, the situation reached the critical level and on August 29 of 2019, Sanitek stopped the waste collection and sanitary cleaning of the city at all. On a formal level, since June 2019, the municipality audited the technical and other conditions of the firm to identify whether they fulfill the provisions of the contract.

Failed waste collection, shortage of waste bins, the poor condition of the available ones, and the lack of specially equipped vehicles: All this automatically makes it impossible to implement the points in the agreement accurately. The examination also revealed the absence of an insurance contract, the incorrect assessment of professional expertise and financial resources under the procurement law, in the process of signing the contract. According to the Mayor, all these facts and the relevant provisions of the contract enable the municipality to unilaterally dissolve the contract signed with Sanitek.
