The meeting of the heads of Armenia and Azerbaijan, scheduled for the end of October through the mediation of the head of the European Council Charles Michel, will not take place.
This was announced by the EU Special Representative for the crisis in the South Caucasus and Georgia, Toivo Klaar, Radio Azatutyun reported on 25 October.
The EU special representative cited “lack of time” as the reason.
“Our goal is for the Armenians of Karabakh to return to their homes. Noting the importance of the meeting in Granada, in which Aliyev did not participate, we are now trying to organize a Pashinyan-Aliyev meeting in Brussels,” Azatutyun quoted Klaar as saying.
“Despite the slow process, we believe that the result will be the signing of the document,” Klaar added.
The new date for the meeting has not been specified.
To note, Charles Michel previously announced a planned meeting in Brussels. The previous meeting in Granada took place without the participation of Azerbaijan: Ilham Aliyev missed the meeting, citing the biased position of France as a mediator.
